Living room layout confusion

Hi all,

I've just bought my first house. I'm struggling to know what to do with the living room layout and where to put the TV and where to put the sofa. I also want to put a desk somewhere for my son, and an armchair too. The room is an odd shape and quite small. I'd appreciate any ideas please!

As you enter the room, the window is on the left wall. Underneath there is the radiator. At some point, I may move the radiator but can't afford that right now.

The wall on the right has plug sockets but the living room door opens against that wall so I can't put a sofa there without banging against the door. I could put the TV there and sofa opposite, but then I don't know where to put other stuff that looks ok. I think a TV swivel mount somewhere might be an option somewhere perhaps,

I've attached some pictures. I'm curious to know what other people would do. Many thanks in advance.

Hello Ali, Okay so you want to change a few things.. Firstly though you need to get some of the placements to suit the dimensions of the room.. It's a longish room so there is actually plenty of space for dining and living.. There is only 1 window and a door.. So what I would do is have a very large mirror on the end wall (dining table end) Paint it the same colour as the wall. Bring the dining table out past the line of shadow on the floor, as per the second image from the top. This then opens the dining space up and hopefully if you had a mirror would bounce light back into the room.. It also gives an interesting perspective from that end of the room as you can see a glimpse of the other end of the room. I would possibly paint the back wall a lighter colour that blends with the floor and compliments the yellow.. Something like an off white or a creamy chalky colour. You can then add a lighter beige sofa and accent the yellow with creams and a bit of brown for warmth.. I notice you have a rug with brown and cream and also brown? dining chairs.. I too wonder what the tv is sitting on? Can you move this.. Could you consider perhaps having a wall mount for the tv? I would re-arrange the sofa configuration so that none of the seating is blocking the window.. So move the whole lot further into the room.. Work out where you might want the tv and then you can arrange the seating with a proximity for watching.. Don't make the seating area about watching the tv but more about conversation, relaxation and creating a homely feel. So moving the rug further in as well would be a good idea.. Maybe you want to choose a L shape sofa.. and arrange the white chairs window side.. place a coffee table or something in the middle and that way the side of the room opposite the window is more open.. Thus creating flow within the room.. Hang some art works or another mirror or both so you introduce something more onto the back wall.. : ))

Thank you. I don't have the measurements at the moment but I've attached a better floorplan!

Unfortunately the door can't open into the hallway as there isn't quite enough space and the hallway is also a tricky tiny shape.
