Everything you've done so far is very neutral. It blends together the two different areas in one open space, yet I think you'd get a more pleasing effect defining them and adding interest. In the simple form of one dimensional carpet you can achieve this. I would suggest a bright and geometric carpet as a stark contrast to the neutral, coordinating (that same mustard) or using opposite (Aubergine?) or tertiary (brighter yellow and goldenrod or into greens) colours with the cushions to separate living from dinning while also bringing continuity. When it comes to colours, ask yourself how you want to feel in this space. Choose colour to guide your mood. Two other small details: 1. The lamp beside the couch should be higher and darker. That charcoal you've used would be an appropriate colour repetition here. 2. The art on the wall above the dinning table is too small. What about bigger and brighter, but keep a charcoal element in either the frame or the art? Lovely job so far :)

I found a manufacturer called 'Kasthall' http://www.kasthall.com/en/products who make beautiful rugs of the type I was looking for but they are pricey (5k). I ended up not being able to stomach that and opted for (as suggested by Man About The House and Carolina) a Louis de Poortere carpet, which they bound/edged for me. https://www.louisdepoortere.be/miuccia.html The carpet is very thin, comfortable and high quality and it ended up being much cheaper than a rug (£1500). Thanks for the suggestions - you were spot on.

Thanks to you all for your advice, looks like I'm going for number 3 and definitely in a large size, I'm deciding between 2 sizes, both big enough to go under furniture - one just about a quarter way and the other will be much more under the furniture but there is £300 difference in price and I really like my floor so I'm leaning towards the slightly smaller of the 2. All the rugs are Louis de poortere, it's a Belgian make but they are stocked in a lot of UK shops (online anyway).
