terracotta floor tiles

Need to makeover an existing conservatory in our new house - will get rid in a few years but it needs an overhaul for now. I say a few years, might end up being a good 10 years. Is it a bad idea to put terracotta floor tiles down? Is there a risk of overheating in the hot weather and burning little feet? We have two small children. I can’t seem to find out googling it. Thanks for your help.

I don’t know about terracotta tiles, but I have porcelain tiles in my kitchen and where the sun shines on them through the patio doors it gets very hot. The shaded areas that don’t get direct sun are fine. Do you have large windows in the kitchen? Could you perhaps put a large rug over the tiles where the sun shines in?

I know it’s potentially a bit old-fashioned, but how about a piece of cushioned vinyl for now? Easy to clean, quicker & easier to lay than tiles, fairly inexpensive (depending on quality) and comes in a myriad of colours & designs - you might even find something in a terracotta style if that’s the look you’re after. Otherwise a slate look or wood effect would be nice.

Hi Vicki, I would go for bigger tiles, ones that are 60 cm x 30 cm. If you use smaller tiles the outcome may look too busy with your chosen floor tiles. I also suggest choosing very light grey wall tiles, the colour of which matches to the grey background colour of the floor tiles. That would give you the industrial sort of vibe you are aiming to achive. Order different samples and see how the combinations look in your bathroom.
