Approximately how much was it to build the pool house?

My husband and I are putting a pool in our new (old) home in Virginia. We are interested in a very simple pool house but one that has a full bath, gas fireplace, Flat screen TV and wet bar.

The pool house was part of a larger project that included the pool, hardscaping and a partial renovation to the interior of the home so unfortunately I don't have a break-out figure for you. I'd personally go for the modern home with a partial view of the woods! Floor to ceiling windows and geometric architecture. Of course, in this dream world, the house would be located where it could receive daily unobstructed sunlight and the it would be build with green technology. :)

to do a quick, cheap job, which will tide you over until you have a better budget and more ideas, put down shingle over the landscaping, and limit planting to pots. to get a cohesive look to your planting, you can paint all sorts of pots, from cheap terracotta to even cheaper plastic, with household emulsion. i have done this, and blatantly copied the colours from this wonderful garden in Marrakech. http://jardinmajorelle.com/ang/ to keep painted pots looking pristine you will need to repaint every year. but i rather like the more distressed look mine are taking on. i bought a large tin of blue and smaller sample-sizes for the yellow and orange. you could even paint the shed and fence if you want. with all that colour, a few evergreens will give you interest even in winter. i bought two 'six-packs' for about £6.00 each, of miniature or slow-growing conifers. lavender grows well in pots, but it likes sandy soil, not clay. herbs are also good, growing quickly and adding scent.

Four windows at 900x900mm and one at 2330x 900mm will give lots of daylight into the scullery area in my opinion . The overhang from next level only covers the two far right windows - if the front of the house front faces South so the garden is North facing ( as I assume it would be in SA ) means you will get early morning sunshine in there . Nb. Your WM and TD are a little too far away from the laundry chute in my opinion - and I think I’d personally prefer to be able to close off the scullery from the kitchen to keep the noise of washing to a minimum . I’d also suggest that the kitchen design be set out slightly differently if you were my client - but that wasn’t in your initial question - so I assume it’s been designed like this at your request.

It sounds like you've got a few great ideas covered already :) Maybe also look at the materials used ie lime plaster, hardwood, chalky paint finishes etc. Choose door furniture, lights and sockets that are appropriate. Would beams suit the style of architecture? Look at deep doors rather than modern ones. I think the interior style will also be important to add character, lots of rugs, art, books etc, maybe mix in a few antiques with new furniture. Lots of texture for cushions, throws etc with traditional window dressings and choose the colour palette based on the scenery? A traditional shaker style kitchen with a natural stone worktop, butlers sink etc . What are the style of windows? Sounds like a fantastic house btw :)
