Lighting Design Dilemma

Can anyone recommend a dining room chandelier for this space?

Hi! hope someone can help me with this! Has to be energy effefficient, low maintenance and LED light since this is for a rental . we will rent it bare. Im not sure if i shoul do black / brass or both! thanks!

Select the light fixture depends in large part on your furnishings.

I would get something open and airy - and not too linear since you don't know what type of table your renters would place there (round vs rectangular) - maybe an open lantern, something like this ($100 at home depot)

Looking at your pictures the room seems to be a good size and will comfortably take two distinct areas - sitting & dining. North Facing lounge can anyone recommend a grey-blue paint?

Hi. I've just had a nosy through your ideabook and activity :) as the room is north facing I'd go for an inky blue/grey rather than the cool mid tone blues and greys as they would just make the room feel really cold. I've also spotted your post re elephants breath and skimming stone. I would get testers of these, they can work work extremely well in a north facing room but may not in others so try them in different lights. Elephants breath particularly is a great "colour". You could then use warm blues as an accent colour

Need ideas for kitchen/dining/utility/office space

remove the wc, use the garage as shower/wc/utility (gets the noise and mess out of the way). This gives a large kitchen/dining. bi-parting pocket doors to the garden room to make it closeable as a teenagers escape/friends room yet when opened its part of the kitchen/dining. Sliding window to garden room, full width in 2 halves, full height glass, only one sliding. Put the whole unit on the outside of the wall to gain another 300mm in width. (I have detail for this), TV against window. Re-roof the garden room if possible or use a system that converts most of it into solid and insulated, so that its comfortable in winter. Change the living room so you can do a better furniture layout by moving the fire--use a stove with a cranked chimney (boxed in) back to the old fireplace. Whatever you do, put furniture on the plans to see if it works and if the space gains by eg an extension are any benefit--I suspect not. Don't cramp the garden corner. Light the garden at night so you don't need curtains and the rooms really feel like you are living in the garden. Its appears to have a good southerly aspect. Use an Architect! Even if only a few hundred pounds for some ideas.

In addition, you could also hard wire the table lamps and look at dimmable lights. There are various downlighters calculators online to check that you have sufficient lighting for the rooms purpose based on room size and ceiling height. Downlights don't need to be in a grid formation and you may want to look at lighting your cabinet and bookcase (or their replacement) for example. For the dining room I would choose the light based on the table i.e. If you're getting another long table maybe a linear light would work and make sure it's large enough for everyone to be able to see what they're eating! I like la_la Girl’s thinking about leaving it open and airy. Here’s another option, but I like graceful curves even if the table is rectangular.

It should be black/bronze to match whatever the handles on the cabinet is or white if you want to lean more modern farmhouse. Brass probably isnt the right option. I'd say go with something inspired by a traditional shape with a modern element. So a simple federal style in black, for example. Going with too much of a statement is polarizing, but you also don't need to go totally builder grade.

If you're the renter, do what you want. That said, I'd say still stick with a blended traditional/modern look consistent with the rest of the rooms
