design advice for garden BBQ/kitchen area

Hello, I wonder if anyone might be able to help solve my design issues? I have been looking at this space for weeks now and going round in circles in the design…so I was wondering if anyone on here has any thoughts or ideas?

We are planning to remove the green garden shed, and I have visions of creating a BBQ / kitchen area. However there are some complexities…

the shed is currently up against a terrace wall (50cm high and to the left of the shed in the picture) so I was thinking to build a bar height counter that could be used standing in the low side and seated normally from the terrace side…then put the grill up against the garden fence (at the back of the garden shed in the picture).
however, the distance from the BBQ to the box window would be less than 200cm…is that a fire safety issue? Do I need to brick up the garden wall or can the grill go up alongside the garden fence? (obviously not touching)
we would also like to install a pleached tree which would sit in the middle of the fence that is behind the shed…exactly where the BBQ needs to go. What does anyone think, can I have the pleached tree, then the BBQ?

Had some thoughts about your garden and came up with a rough sketch:) (see pic). Decking outside the garden office would look nice but I’m not sure about bringing it all the way to the house as decking can take a fair amount of maintenance although you can get composite decking or slabs that look like wood which would probably be easier to look after. I think breaking it up and having some planting would be nice and more pleasing to look at. So on the sketch I brought the decking to surround the office windows then added a small seating area and space for planting which could include a small pond or water feature. This could be like a contemplation area where you can relax and have a tea break:) Instead of decking pathway I think slabs or tiles to match the patio would be better. The patio I’ve kept as is but extended a little to include bbq area. Did think that putting the bbq on the right side of patio might be good as well. Put in some extra planting areas but that’s just because I like plants:) planting pocket is basically a hole in the deck but some tall grasses or similar with lighting would look great on the left side of the office and help to balance things out. Not sure on a pergola mainly because I think adding another tall structure on the left would make that side of the garden seem overly busy but it’s entirely up to you what you want. Anyway hope this gives you some fresh ideas:) P.s. sketch is not to scale.

Hi there Sarah, It looks like a nice blank canvas in there! It looks like it is in a slope. Is this area levelled? If it isnt, you should factor in the cost of levelling it out if you are thinking about using it as a seating area as moving soil out can be a bit of a dent in the budget. There are some options to hard paving such as gravel etc. You could also use some of the area for plant beds, which would add interest to your seating area. Hi Jonathan - thanks! Unfortunately for height reasons I can't put a pergola up. Neighbours won't like it as our patio will already be 30cm above the lawn. On the height of the surfaces, I wonder if I ought to just accept a higher worktop height. This will block the view of the garden a bit, but with a BBQ and maybe pizza oven in the kitchen area, the height will unavoidably be higher then the walls anyway. So a higher wall perhaps isn't a problem (and would look tidier when viewed from the garden anyway). Do you have any specific thoughts on the lighting options? Seems like an infinite set if options. I made the model in Sketchup with a plugin called vray. . Borrowed a friend's machine to do it.. I'm not sure I've got a great render from vray, but it was the default settings. Plenty of YouTube tutorials.if.interested, I'm no expert at all. Thanks
