Hi, can someone please advise if this is practical design for a kitchen? I dont know where my fridge would go, probably opposite the kitchen island? is the pantry misplaced? cant get my head around whether this is too squashed. happy for suggestions. chatgpt isnt being very helpful!

There is a door swing clash between the double doors to your kitchen and the pantry entrance. This needs solving as if the kitchen doors are open you can't open the pantry door. You could have a slightly bigger island if you skipped the seating there. I don't think the fridge is going to fit opposite the island. Just an observation that the office and cloakroom are taking up space that could comfortably fit your fridge. A lot of people don't put the sink on the island as it is usually untidy and very visible. Would it fit further down the run towards the bifolds? I like your pantry maybe the fridge could go inside it?

I wonder if having the office accessed front the hall would work better. Move over pantry to make room for fridge.

Have you thought about pocket doors for your pantry? I agree that you probably shouldn’t put your sink on the island, it will be highly visible and also reduce the space available when entertaining.

Thank you for the suggestions, really like tab’s idea, definitely flows better this way. and we were planning to create a door from the hallway into utility anyway, so this would work.

I’ve always wanted a sink island, is it really a bad idea? i wanted as much work top space as possible, but I understand we can get extra space from the island instead. I had initially planned for height level ovens, but I’m probably going to get a rangemaster big stove now, so sink on the other side could work. loads to think about here!

this is going to be a remodel, so can play around with ideas! I’d ideally like to keep the cloakroom/office walled off, as these spaces may also get used as sleepover space for family during holidays.

The sink on the island is a very personal choice. It depends on your lifestyle. I would just say that if you decide to do that then make sure that the island worksurface is large enough for all the dishes, etc, that are between dishwasher and storage. Consider Smeg too, better build quality then some rangemasters. My neighbours Rangemaster had plastic knobs! Falcon is amazing if affordable. I can only dream of Lacanche. If you don't have the sink on the island then it could be a more sociable space. Are you planning on an american style fridge freezer?

As an amendment to Tab’s layout. Outside space/views of outside space are a premium. Think of swopping the location of the office to have that window overlooking the back garden and an office with access to views of outside. Construct the widow so you can have a great view of the garden when sitting down. Maybe place the utility in proximity to the stairs so that laundry etc is travelling shorter distances from bathrooms and bedrooms/ is closer to the bedrooms/ upstairs.
