Is the walkway going to form an extension? If yes, there must be a better use of space than paying for what is essentially a hallway…..

I agree with Kazz. You are proposing building a very long thin hall and the same size built could be an extra bedroom or a kitchen extension to make it large enough to be a kitchen diner.

Additionally the hallway and stairs seem oversized. Could the same money spent on moving the stairs deliver a bigger gain?

It makes sense to move the entrance to give yourself a better dining area that isn’t in a thoroughfare. My query would be the existing vs proposed kitchen. It looks like the current set up allows for an island and also light to travel from the window over the stairs into the space, it looks like the new kitchen may feel both darker and more pokey, although you will have 2 walls to put units against.

The walkway is sort of irrelevant right now and the room to think about is the kitchen. On one hand, squaring the kitchen off is easier to fit out, the main bedroom doesn't feel part of the kitchen and is separated along with the other downstairs bedrooms. The downside is a closed in kitchen feeling. Possibly fitting a couple roof lights in the kitchen might help.

Did @katlucy plan not give what you wanted? I thjnk you said the views from the hall are good? You could consider a dwarf wall and glazing just from the bottom corner of the bedroom to the island which would separate the bedroom but also keep the light and views

If tou watch tv I’d think about where that goes with a fireplace too
