Do you have a gallery wall?
Comments (13)This is a great idea! If you struggle with fixing frames to do this, you can use our Thistle Magnetic Plaster - plaster the wall, decorate as you wish, attach magnets to the back of your picture frames and then create your gallery. It can change and grow, and you can rearrange as often as you like....See MoreHallway
Comments (8)There are two ways to go with hallways: A. Embrace the dark side and go really dark (charcoal, dark slate blue, dark grey green) but add mirrors and lots of white or big it up with bronze / antique gold lighting fixtures. B. Choose some accent colours that relate to the rest of the rooms that lead off this hallway - you want your home to flow rather than be a combination of independent rooms, so choose two or three great colours and fill the space with yummy things. Think about these ideas: 1. Definitely think mirrors for hallways. 2. Books. These instantly make a space warmer and friendlier - add a long shelf above head height or fill with interesting objects. 3. Treat it like a real room, not just an annoying corridor. Make it special, as you would your sitting room. 6. Groups of pictures to make one large display - link them by colour or content or paint the frames / mounts the same colour. 7. Paint your own huge modern art canvas in your scheme colours. 8. Full length mural - there are some really fun ones nowadays. 9. Quality fake flowers / plants / trees (emphasis on the word QUALITY!). 10. Picture Gallery. 11. Wooden lettering "Live With Passion"! 12. Get an art student to paint a fun mural. Comments (23)I agree with the others that if you like it, do it. It's easy enough to take it out later. But for valuable works, I'd suggest hanging the work directly on the wall with two D-rings and hooks (it's more secure, and less likely to get knocked to the floor). Some practical things to keep in mind: Ensure the shelving is strong enough to support the weight of the works you intend to display. Groups of glazed works can become very heavy. This also means using the appropriate means of fixing the shelf to the wall, according to what the wall is made of (seek professional advice if you're not sure). The taller the artwork, the deeper the shelf needs to be to allow enough of a lean. If installing above a sofa or dining chairs, check for head clearance. If the shelf is to be installed in a high traffic area (stair well, hallway), consider having a small raised lip along the front of the shelf to prevent the artworks slipping off. All art moves due to vibrations and air movement. Re cleaning glass and frames: NEVER spray glass cleaner or any liquid directly onto the glass because it will get behind the glass and damage the work. Plus, artworks and frames hate chemicals and moisture! Always use a clean, slightly damp cloth - microfibre cloths are great for this. If you must use chemicals, spray the cleaner onto a lint-free cloth just enough to moisten it, then clean the glass....See MoreHall and stairs design
