POLL: Basement or loft?
Comments (80)Basements are a great way to add a feature space to your home, such as a games room or home cinema! Our Clients in London, mainly Clapham, South Kensington, Greenwich and Hackney love them as they can gain extra space without moving home. If you want to work to more of a budget, lofts are far easier and cheaper options to create additional space. Comments (6)Hi. I think any dark, rich colour could work well (would paint the skirts in the wall colour) but if you didn't want to paint the furniture either a really deep teal or inky blue would work well. Perhaps use ochre or burnt orange as accent colours or moss or emerald/grass green work really well with an inky blue. I assume the ceilings aren't tanked so you'll need a ceiling fix pole? Having floor to ceiling curtains will make it feel taller. I'd also have a tall portrait leaner mirror on the wall opposite the window to make it feel taller and to bounce light (do you know where the stud work is for attaching things to walls?) Could you have a light weight canvas hung on the chimney breast attached with those sticky pads? Agree re lighting and would also add 1/2 floor lamps. Is an electric stove in budget for the chimney? My only reservation is dark walls against a white ceiling. I think my basement is the same height and I deliberated for ages and in the end painted it all white :) there is an argument that dark ceilings can create depth as you can't see where they end.. also an argument re white gloss or Matt finish for the ceilings! If you did go for dark walls though i might consider a mid shade for the ceiling...See MoreHelp needed please with a basement reconfiguration
Comments (9)Hi. I would keep the lounge as it is, move the kitchen under the upstairs kitchen (so into bedroom2) and open that space up a little if you can. I would then enlarge the existing bathroom slightly as you won't need all that hall space with the utility becoming your new hall. The main bedroom would then be where the kitchen is and a little of the master suite. The second bedroom I would do as a study come bedroom come entrance where the current master bedroom is and entrance to the property. This would be open most of the time but contain a 'study bed' which can be pulled down as a desk or as a bed for guests. Picture attached. This should then make a stylish fairly open space for your DIL to rent or use in the future and very comfortable for you now :) I hope that all makes sense....See MoreTO BASEMENT OR NOT TO BASEMENT?
Comments (4)Basements are definately a fantastic way to add living or recreational space to your home. Especially in London where space can be limited. More and more people are opting to develop their homes instead of moving so great to see some nice basements like this popping up!
