How do you make your guests feel special?
Comments (50)Homejoy! wow! that is expensive! My cleaning team asks €8 an hour and this includes windows (I have heard some companies do not, or they actually charge extra!!!), shutters, terrace, yard area, laundry, ironing, hauling out the recycling to a common area - light cleaning or very heavy cleaning, indoor or outdoor, all for the same €8. And they have a key to my house. They are now doing all my neighbors as well. I actually pay €10 an hour as they have to come a half hour and they are very flexible and are happy to come last minute weekends when possible. I do my own cleaning but this team does the heavy stuff (windows, shutters, cupboards, kitchen appliances, polishing the floor) every 10 days, so I am normally ready for drop in guests. I wish I had them more often!!!!...See MoreWhat was your childhood dream home?

Comments (29)Alas there are several- one early on in married life, my first meal for mother in law and sister in law and husband, I put 2 oz of salt in fruit flan for dessert, instead of 2 oz of sugar! Everyone was very polite and said nothing until I did, then they all agreed it was awful and we had cheese and biscuits and chocolates instead. When cooking for other relatives of my husbands, a bit of metal evidently fell off the hand whisk into the dessert and, (fortunately) I got the biggest piece in a mouth fall, breaking a tooth off completely! We once appeared at a new neighbors for a meal a week early, dressed to the nines with a bottle of wine, a week early (they looked utterly confused but invited us in and we had a takeaway instead amid much laughter). Likewise, we went to a work colleague of my husbands, and his wife with the usual bottle of wine etc. Unfortunately they turned out to be deeply religious, totally against alcohol of any sort and spent the entire evening trying to convert us from our heathen life and preaching hell fire at us....See MoreWin tickets to Grand Designs Live - tell us your Grand Designs dream!
Comments (17)My partner & I bought a fishery with 2 lakes just over a year ago, the entire 10 acre site was very neglected, but we have renovated the lakes so that the anglers have a wonderful experience in beautiful surroundings. Our dream now is to renovate the house, reconfiguring the property so that we too can enjoy the beauty of our surroundings. There is also an acre of garden to landscape, we have many ideas but ideas on where to start would be fantastic...See MoreEmmeline Westin
