Thoughts on Scandinavian style?
Comments (36)Norwegian Scandi style is really cool with monochrome background but with great art work on the walls and accents of colour. At night it looks really cozy with lots and lots of candles which are all lit and replaced regularly . My son lives just outside Oslo and I visit a lot. His wife is Norwegian and also a designer by profession but their house always looks tremendous . You don't get bord with the minimalist design as it is regularly changed around....See MoreGround floor redesign - confused by options
Comments (24)Dosia_Konn Perhaps I could answer your query by explaining first what Architects do. The Architect takes the client's brief and instructions, prepares feasibility designs , cost estimates and makes Planning and Building Regulation Applications, negotiates with Planners & Building Control Officers on behalf of the clientdesigns the whole building/extension, specifies the materials to be used in the construction, specifies the quality and method of construction, provides detailed, dimensioned drawings to Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, etc etc, prepares tender documents for the whole project, checks potential contractors, invites tenders, reports and advises on received tenders, prepares Contract documents, administers the Building Contract, issues Certificates for Payments at appropriate times, inspects the work as it proceeds to ensure it conforms with the Contract, agrees Final Accounts with Contractors and issues Final Certificates to clients etc for payment, makes six month inspections, issues instructions to contractors to make good defects etc etc Interior Designers are sometimes, but not invariably, engaged as part of the Professional Team to advise on the design of the interiors of buildings, including colour schemes, fabrics, fittings and furniture, estimating costs, sourcing fittings, furniture and fabrics including floor and wall coverings. They specialise in these aspects of the building project but do not offer the extent and quality of services as offered by Architects who are normally regarded as the leaders of any design team and who are required to have considerably more training, qualifications and expertise in all aspects of building projects than Interior Designers have or need. I am unaware of the minimum qualification necessary to call oneself an 'Interior Designer' and would be interested to learn that. Some Interior Designers offer more than the normal service as mentioned above and if a client prefers to take that option that is their right to do so. Some draughtsmen do the same but I wouldn't recommend that course of action in this specific instance unless the particular Interior Designer/Draughtsmen shows himself/herself well equipped, experienced and qualified to do the job as well as an Architect....See MoreWhat Would Houzzers Do? - New Boiler
Comments (29)Oh Patrina, sorry to hear about this! I hope you get it resolved. I had a WB installed last year and it has been very reliable, if a little noisy when operating. I would continue with the complaint. You can accept the monetary compensation but you should also ask them to pay for an independent engineer to come out and inspect the boiler. If further work is required then BG should fit the bill, as well as the cost of any decorative/structural repair work. This is 'redress'. With complaints, you have to persist until you get the outcome that is right for you. The offer of £400 might be tempting, but it is compensation, not redress, and once you accept it BG will consider the complaint resolved. If you do not think they have resolved the complaint to your satisfaction ask for it to be passed to their complaints ombudsman - I think this is OFGEM....See MoreFull re-wiring, new combi boiler and central heating
Comments (30)I’m not a solicitor but I’d have thought they should have got probate organised before marketing the house. I’ve been executor and got everything organised before marketing and so it was really quick to complete as there was no chain. I don’t understand how you were expecting the keys and now they’re doing more searches. In your position I would ask your solicitor (not the estate agent- they represent the seller not you, so always be careful what you tell them) to establish exactly what is outstanding and then explain it to you with expected timescales- you can then assess whether you need to extend your mortgage offer. If it’s just minor things (eg executors often can’t answer standard conveyancing questions) then you can look at how important they are and alternatives (eg insurance policies can sometimes deal with missing documents). Check with the solicitor that he has everything on your side too (eg final mortgage documentation)....See Morestryker
