Advice please on attic space & 'feature' wall
Comments (11)Hi, As a plasterer I'd just like to add that you may have to get the artex tested for asbestos before removing. Don't be tempted to do it yourself just incase! Ask your builder/plasterer how he intends to remove it to check his knowledge. Products can. ow be bought that are painted on and these soften it enabling it to be scraped off easily. Also be prepared to lose up to 150mm down from your existing ceiling depending on how it's specified to be insulated. You'll need a gap between your tiles and felt and the new insulation (this will prevent moisture tracking to the new plaster) then insulation between the roof timbers and then a layer of insulation covering all of this. Then you will have the plasterboard screwed into the timber. I hope I haven't put you off the whole idea now. Good luck with the project!...See MoreHow would you use this space for a utility / pantry
Comments (14)Beth. First thoughts would be to use the study as a Utility as there must be plumbing close by in the W.C Secondly, that is a beautiful big spacious room. Do you really want to cut it up for a walk in pantry? We renovated our house a few years ago and got rid of the walk in pantry so as to have a larger kitchen. It was a constant drag when cooking to have to go in there and find things. I honestly prefer tall order units with drawers for jars, tins, rice, pasta etc as they are so much easier to store and access. I want all my herbs and spices and oils right next to me when I am cooking not in a different room. Getting rid of the pantry was a blessing for us. I think you could extend the units on both walls up to where the windows are and then have a much larger island orientated in the other direction. Can you ever have too much workspace in a kitchen? Good luck...See MoreHow to use this blank wall and space!?
Comments (5)You could go for another plant (real or good fake) for top shelf above TV to soften and pull the alcoves together. I would agree with Kate that both walls just need some artwork, maybe smaller ones above the sofa and a large piece for the blank wall....See MoreGround floor redesign - how to best make use of large floor space
Comments (8)Ask your self if the kitchen is actually a good kitchen….. if you need a utility room next to the kitchen for additional refrigeration or storage or additional work surface then it’s not a good enough kitchen for you. Ideally the utility should be just a laundry room in which case it’s best near the bedrooms upstairs or at least near the bottom of the stairs....See Morelocation24
