Need help with design ideas for my living/dining room
Comments (16)Have you thought of rearranging the furniture so the tv isn't the focal point? Furniture against walls can make a room appear smaller. If the budget permits I would add a coffee table to bring furniture into the middle of the room. I would also add a mirror to the dining area to bounce light and maybe install a low hanging pendant light over the table. I would also choose a neutral coloured rug as using a single colour for an item becomes the focal point. Grey is a good modern neutral for walls. If you want to use paper on a smaller wall choose a small pattern that won't date unless you don't mind repapering to keep it up to date. There are some really fantastic papers around at the moment such as chinoiserie, bold contemporary and typography but it depends on your preferred style? Maybe use plain (not patterned as this may date or your taste will change) velvet or silk curtains to soften the room. Use different colours and textures for the accessories to avoid block colours as per comment above. Pattern/interest can also be added in the form of wall art....See MoreUpdate living and dining room
Comments (15)Thanks for replies. I'm not an expert in any shape or form but I have decorated and furnished our georgian home which we bought recently so have outlined my thoughts. Symmetry is key to georgian design so would have matching sofas (classic style) either side of the fireplace with a coffee table in the middle on an oriental rug. A pair of wing chairs would also look good but appreciate you want to minimise! Sage green or stone may work well with the curtains or try a pale duck egg (it's difficult to see the exact tones of the curtains). Georgians drew on oriental design, Chinoiserie wallpaper is very in at the moment and Is typical of the period. They also used black lacquer, maybe consider white oriental lacquer furniture as a modern touch? I would put a picture rail in the lounge as it looks as if you have one in the dining room so would carry it through. The lounge would look lovely with a large chandelier. Maybe accessorise with Roman busts, large ginger jars etc. the parquet sounds lovely. They are lovely rooms anyway so I am sure they will look stunning...See MoreHelp!! living room/dining area.
Comments (2)Hi, I'd paint the wall behind the sofa in a colour that complements your painting. I'd hang the painting and the TV lower. Ikea has some good media unit options that offer storage and a chance to display some lovely items too (Besta). I would also hang a pendant light above the table (in my mock up I used two because it looked better). That will make the dining area feel a bit more cosy. I'd move the glass display unit to the other side of the sofa perhaps. And maybe you could try swapping the armchairs around, so the one that is visually lighter is in front of the windows. Cushions in the colours of the painting would also give a more 'put together' look....See MoreTired Living Room Transformed in Edinburgh!
Comments (16)Hi Resh E. Thanks for your kind comment. The colour is Farrow and Ball's Light Blue. It looks a little brighter than it is in these photos but it's a fabulous colour in all lights. Best wishes. Lally...See Morecomfydesign
