Fence colour

We completed our garden last year after many months of digging, laying turf and replanting. We are delighted with the finished result and are now thinking about painting the fence. We are considering black but wonder if it will end up dominating the space, what do you all think colour wise. Many thanks

6 years agoA grey fence could work too? To me a black fence would look fabulous all summer as a back drop for plants, but a bit dreary in winter when they've all died back. I'd grow some climbers up it too whatever you chose. The garden looked great last year- bet you can't wait for summer?!

Comments (5)Your fencing has a cottage feel so I assume your garden is cottagey? A lot of people are painting fences black or dark grey and it does look good and it gives a more modern feel. I personally wouldn’t paint a fence in too bright a colour as it can be very overwhelming. I really like the deeper sage green colour Wild Thyme as it goes well with nature. The first picture is Wild Thyme. I think the bright colours such as the pink or blue are more for planters and pots or even a shed, rather than a fence. I think taupe shades like Muted Clay and Natural Stone can also look good. In one of the pics below someone has painted their fence in white and it looks lovely against the green planting. Reading this on my phone, in the sunshine, so perhaps I can’t see it properly, but the fence on the left looks like the original paint colour in the bottom (before?) photo. 6 years agoBeautiful garden. Especially love the little water fountain. As for the fence I would leave it as is. Black or deep grey looks great when contrasted with green foliage but like previously mentioned it could look gloomy in the winter, more so if the plants aren't evergreen. For a more modern look you could try horizontal slats. I also think a warm stone or ivory colour would look good.
