need help with modern pool

Hi, we're installing a pool and just finished the concrete. Our plan was to use slate coping with brushed concrete decking. I didn't look into other options since our budget is pretty low. But now I'm wondering if we should do something else for the coping. I like a more streamlined, modern look - and the dark slate might create too much of a dark border. Our house is white board and batten with charcoal shingles, black windows... so I was thinking it'd blend well with the house, but not so sure now...Thoughts?

Your best bet is to locate a reputable (possibly local or that works in Austria) company that can produce bespoke staircases. Give them your specification and ask them to do a site survey first. It is hard to say what fixing method would be the best / easiest and cheapest way without this. The price.. well I wouldn't like to put a figure on it as companies are set up differently meaning manufacturing and installation costs vary. As a starter, the staircase above was manufactured from stainless steel zig zag stringers (coated mild steel can work too), with solid timber box treads and low iron glass balustrade. There is a write up on our website here. A few main details like this should be enough (along with a survey) for the company to determine a staircase design and price for you. Hope this helps! I see that you've had no responses to your query about planting for your garden, which looks as if it has great potential. The 'floating' slate steps are particularly stylish. You'll need to give information about your location (what country are you in?), elevation, and general orientation before anyone can start to advise on appropriate planting. Olive trees do well in sunny, well-drained positions in mild areas including some parts of Britain, bay trees can take rather more winter cold and dampness, many ferns need moist shade or semi-shade, most grasses need sun and can take cold winters since they are dormant then.

Good news, the colour scheme on your walls seems fitting and your wooden mantelpiece, TV stand and sideboard would all work well with this style in my opinion however, if you wanted to mix it up you could stain these a darker colour. The above comment's woodburner suggestion is a good one. I think bare white painted floorboards would look lovely. I would suggest white sofas and introduce some soft yellows in to your colour scheme with cushions and/or blankets. If you can't afford new sofas a throw on each with new cushions would provide a cheap revamp. I would accessorize with an artificial palm tree, shells or decorative sand in a vase, a wooden mirror above the fireplace and I love a yankee candle - I'd recommend 'Riviera Escape'. Have fun!

It really depends on the budget you have and how much work you want to do. If you cant change the kitchen itself then consider painting the units in a white or grey and change the handles. The light can change for a more modern pendant or two. Loose the old fashioned window dressing and change for a more modern roller blind. The glass isn't really very modern or asked for much in kitchen units anymore so you could also buy some frosted looking sticker to go on the inside to blend it a little more and keep it more modern looking. You may need to consider the tiles which again depends on budget. The best option is to replace it for a more modern tile or splash back but if budget is very tight then there are some great quality tile plaints out there which can give a great look if it is done well. I hope that gives you some ideas but I think people really need a little more information on what you are looking for and what budget you may have. All the best.
