Need help with ground floor internal layout of kitchen/diner reception
Comments (12)Thank you for details. In general, location of areas is chosen fine, especially if you want to keep dining and kitchen separately. Although I will have couple of suggestions for you. I would consider more space for your dining/kitchen area. Make it wider and add at least 1m-1,5 m. You have double doors to the garden but you don't leave enough room to walk around table. It can be a nightmare to move chairs if you need to pass, even simply for the reason to open or close windows with curtains or blinds. Looking at lounge areas: two large sofas will look bulky, especially in the area, which you plan to keep neat and clean. It means it should be as functional (when you need it to be) as to be out of your way when you live your life. From here, I will recommend to choose corner sofa for your sitting room and a large footstool. It will allow you to have open look on interior and area will look larger, welcoming and you will have more seats for family hours. If you like armchairs, then have a look at next layout Second area doesn't need large sofa. A set of chairs will look much better and will be more functional. Therefore, you don't need any special dividers between two areas because they will look as two separate complete areas and you will not miss such fact :) If you wonder to place doors or special separation to kitchen + dining area, there are many esthetic options https://alenacdesign.wordpress.com/2016/03/09/room-dividers-and-other-solutions/ I hope it will help you :) Don't hesitate to ask more. Comments (7)Hi there, I agree with Daisy, paint the skirtings and banisters a nice fresh white and paint the walls in the darker colour. I like the colour you've started to paint the bannister in the last pic but think this should be on the walls, perhaps a shade or two lighter as well. I don't think you need a dado, keep the walls as one single colour. I think having a darker colour on the walls will absorb any dark shadows where as a white will accentuate them therefore making it look darker. Use a scrubbable paint so you can wipe any marks off. Add white framed mirrors/art, white furniture if you need any, to bring back the brighter feel that you're after. I will be interested in other comments as well, as I have very similar dark hallway which will be decorated in the distant future....See MoreLiving Room - Victorian Panelling and Posts - Help!
Comments (10)Fantastic space! And I LOVE the pillars they make the room unique and will be a lovely impressive finish to the room if you're wanting to keep it elegant. You say you would like to keep it natural and warm and cosy because you have a toddler so you want it to be a comforting and inviting space, so the sofas you have are perfect, to section off the room why not consider placing the 3 seater in the centre of the pillars? I think with a little one running around radiator covers are a good idea. But the current ones will kill the look you're wanting to achieve, so keep the idea of having them, but perhaps have some tailor made to suit your theme? You can then get a little creative and make them look more stylish. See example in my pic below. Also you have a lovely opening into the garden but the lighting seems a little dark during the day, so I would definitely keep your colour scheme light and airy, that way if you keep the pillars you can just paint them a solid white so they soften and won't look as bulky. I had a look at the Zoffany Paint colour chart for you (I adore them). And I think they have some lovely modern takes on the colour beige, like their colour called "canvas", "milk" or "Lily" for example. That way you can keep the carpet and build your look around that....you can order a paint chart from this link. https://www.stylelibrary.com/paint/zoffany-paint/...See MoreCarolina
