You have a spectacular eye for beautiful art. That sculpture is a one-of-a-kind piece for an estate sale. The art is a famous artist Niso Maman. It is made solid red large nails. It is priced at $9,600. Let me know if you are considering purchasing this item.

Hi Celina, if you want to create a differentiated zone a rug incorporating your accent colours would help enormously to delineate the "new area". I would then create a reading corner focusing towards the garden. Perhaps a low bookshelf in white in an L shape behind the sofa and along the wall with a small wood framed chair in a deeper blue tone, with floor standing lamp for task lighting and a large print on the wall above the shelves. You could then use the top of the bookcase for decorative items or lamps. Alternatively what about a stepped and/or cubby-holed (with differing sized niches) bookshelf on the wall to add interest and as a place for books and decorative items - that would enable you to personlise the space. Or bookshelves with cupboards under to maximise storage. You could place a long bench seat (upholstered or not as you prefer) behind the sofa for your child to use for play etc. I do agree that the dark cabinet looks a bit out-of-place in your scheme - a tall, skinny, sculptural plant might help here but I think it may be too dark for it to thrive (perhaps a daylight lamp would help?). Alternatively just a couple of prints one above the other would take care of an awkward space where you need to retain the flow from room-to-room. A small study area is a good suggestion too.

I think that the fire place is beautiful as it is and does not need any make up!! The sideboard on the right is no so big at all and if painted with different colour than grey and distressed could become a much lighter piece with its own character. I would take the top off the left one and again shabby chick it, filling the doors with ornaments to make it more interesting. It is amazing what a transformation you can achieve with a bit of chalk paint! I fitted anthracite to my house. Don't regret it. Anthracite allows the frames to blend into the glass itself, they don't compete with the glass panes... giving a more seamless look. White may be classic, but it's been (in my mind at least) ruined as a window frame choice due to the plethora of thick uPVC frames that are fitted in most places. Still, it's all a matter of personal taste.

I love Minnie's dark wall suggestion. It definitely recedes and places the focus elsewhere. I don't think you can have too many plants out there either. More is more will give the impression of a much larger space. Just wondering, have you got room for some kind of waterproof box/storage that looks good but you can quickly out cushions, throws etc in if it rains and you don't want to bring them all into the living space?
