A contemporary touch: renovating a Tudor country house in Suffolk
Comments (4)Depends on whether it is listed or not. mine is listed and quite restrictive as to the choice of paint, both quality and colours etc. The Tudors had quite bright colours for decoration (think manuscript illuminations) but the outside was basically chalk-white and pitch for the wood. hence the black and white theme. Let me know if it is indeed listed or not, then I can share some ideas. It depends on how much you want to spend (originals are scarce therefore expensive) and reproductions have to be good quality, otherwise, it can look like a pastiche/ Disney house. Lighting is always wrought iron (alas no crystal chandeliers!) and at most slumped glass panels, which one can have made at a local pottery, impurities and all, and one can go a bit mad with designs. Also, Tudor spans quite a length of time, so if early Tudor it can be cottagey, or late can get more elaborate gothic. Think Adams family. Mirrors must be rusty and warped. No shiny surfaces in this decor. It can be quite dark, with the usual small windows, so there is only one way to go- Warm and cosy. Or in big spaces, candlelit and draughty....See MoreRenovation of Victorian Mid Terrace House - Now Light & Bright!

These were manufactured by Valchromat....See MoreVictorian House Re-design - Kitchen
Comments (39)Truly beautiful work but I feel that the two large pendants over the table where not necessary. Too many pendants now and the ceiling is not high enough for them. It would have been different with smaller shades possibly. An alternative would have been to use the pendant you have over the island over the table and used something like this over the island instead. This is the Long John brass spotlights fixture available on @hollowaysofludlow and you can find it in a variety of lengths from 1m to 2.6m depending on the length of your island. It would match the brassware on the cabinetry too....See MoreVictorian House Side Extension
