Automated 5 Bedroom Smart Home
As part of the building of a large five-bedroom property the client wanted a reasonable level of automation and control over the technology in the house. This included control lighting circuits and blinds, security and CCTV, television, amplifier and YouView with HD video being distributed to multiple TVs around the house with easy to use control via Android tablets. Furthermore the client wanted seamless Wi-Fi throughout the house.
Overall solution/approach:
An automation controller was installed as the central brain of the system and connected to the various discrete components. Vitrum was chosen for lighting and blind controllers. An alarm system was installed with central station monitoring via IP and dial-up and with connectivity to the automation controller. CCTV via networked recorder was setup with connectivity to Android application for remote viewing. HD video is distributed over CAT6 cabling from a HDMI matrix to the TVs throughout the property. All connected technology can be controlled via customised touch screen layouts on the client supplied Android tablets.
Vitrum solution/approach:
Vitrum was chosen for lighting and blind controllers and installed during the “second fix” phase of the electrician’s work. This included a variety of dimmer and on/off circuits, with satellite switches for 2 and 3 way circuits. The lighting controls both internal and external lights with both conventional light bulbs and LED lighting being in use.
The lighting was integrated to the automation controller along with the alarm system so that when the client leaves the property and sets the alarm, all light is switched off and a security light program is running after sunset to simulate occupancy of the property.
Conclusion:
The delivered solution met the client’s requirements today and provides an element of future proofing with room to grow. As a result of the successful implementation we are already discussing additional automation items with the client.
