Fendalton Serenity is a new house build within an established property in the leafy suburb of Fendalton, Christchurch. The simple, modern, and classic landscape brings together a sophisticated and serene feel with elegantly designed and built outdoor spaces, framed by contemporary architecture and an established tree and streamside boundary.

Xteriorscapes were engaged to develop a carefully considered landscape concept for the large site that included the retention of an existing garage, swimming pool and pavilion, all of which were at slightly different angles to the new house. It was exciting that our landscaping treatment was key to disguising and minimising the visual effects of these angle differences. The challenge of revamping the existing pool area and the landscaping around the house was paramount to successfully merging indoors and out and integrating old with new coherently.

On the north side of the house, the location of the existing pool and its surrounds became the centrepiece of the design through the seamless connection back to the house and adjoining outdoor living spaces. This was achieved by keeping the design as simple as possible using a uniform and classic tile module around the pool area that flowed back to the level entry of the house and the use of glass fencing.
