Halswell Lifestyle
Located on a lifestyle block on the outskirts of Halswell, this stunning new build was constructed next to the established gardens of the original home which sustained earthquake damage and was earmarked for demolition.
We were approached to develop a masterplan for the site including the landscaping around the house, integrating it into the existing environment.
This region is battered by the cold prevailing easterly winds and with being situated on a rural property the vast building site was certainly open to the elements. This naturally lead to an integral client request of providing sheltered outdoor living spaces, which can be seen throughout our design.
Using a combination of a ½ height solid wall and ½ height glass screens adjacent to the house with in-built seating we have provided shelter from these winds while allowing for light to filter into the space and views out to be retained. This same design concept has also been pulled into the properties main feature - a sunken outdoor dining courtyard. With render block walls to match the house, hardwood timber steps, coloured concrete, timber planters/seats, tilting louvre roof system, central outdoor wood fireplace, lighting, and glass screens on the east side of the space for additional wind protection, this cosy area has become an entrainment hub for all those lovely family occasions.
