Front and Back Garden Revamp, Little Chalfont

A total redesign of this arts and crafts house's family garden. Originally an orchard, the back garden consisted of a large lawn bisected by a row of old apple trees. An extension at the rear had created a courtyard space which the family originally intended to simply pave but realised that this might not create a space conducive to relaxation and family enjoyment, so they called in Chiltern Garden Design who created a garden full of colour, relaxing spaces, and relaxed style.

A rustic red kite sculpture looks out over the wildflower meadow, with a cosy ready nook nestled in one corner. A row of espaliered pear trees creates separation between the meadow and a kitchen garden area comprising fruit cage and greenhouse.

The view from the couryard across the lawn reaches across a full planting bed full of white, purple and lemon flowers, softened with grasses and natural domed shrubs. A central copper water feature in the shape of a Castor Oil Plant drips gently onto pebbles below, with no pond.

A stone circle made of natural stone setts by the front door has ripples radiating out from the central circle, delineating the front garden spaces between parking and planted beds. Russet tones in the Japanese maples and perennial planting tone in with the house.
