Greenwich Listed Building Extension & Refurbishment
This listed building, opposite Blackheath, has benefited from the construction of new glazed rear extension, double height side extension (housing the new staircase to the basement), and extension and refurbishment of the existing basement to provide natural light and views to the garden.
A sensitive retrofit approach throughout the house sees new materials bring a contemporary feel to the Victorian shell. Natural light is treated as a material in itself, and each living space benefits from ample light throughout the day. The new staircase, positioned to the side of the existing staircase is contemporary but relates to the original listed, early Victorian house, and adds volume and light to the basement. A modest opening through the original flank wall of the house, provide glimpses of the more contmpoaray basement space, and towards the glazed rear extension.
