Large Garden in Cheam

A large garden designed for the owners to enjoy in their retirement. As keen gardeners, the herbaceous borders and sunken vegetable garden give them plenty of work to enjoy and develop. The central water feature is the main view from the living room, whilst the terrace is accessed from the conservatory and the kitchen.

The main terrace accessed from both the conservatory and kitchen, nestles in planting. The bed is flanked by two mature olive tree specimens and pergolas that lead around the garden. The planting screens the sunken vegetable garden from which the picture is taken.

Approaching the terrace from the side gate, brick is used to break up the riven paving and delineates the paths leading around the garden. Pergolas and Olive trees add height and structure.

The terrace is secluded, surrounded by sun loving planting. To the left in front of the gate the owners have nurtured a large lemon tree, in the large pot, which overwinters in the glass house. To the right is the side wall of the garage, well screened by the planting.

From a smaller upper pool the water cascades down the wide steps into the rill that feeds the square pool in the centre of the main lawn. At the back of the garden a yew hedge gives a dark backdrop to the wild grass and fruit trees.

Wide herbaceous borders edge the large lawn. in the distance is the glasshouse where the owners spend much time nurturing cuttings.
