Found were appointed to design and implement the full alteration and refurbishment of a large first and second floor maisonette just off Portobello Road. The client required a light, open plan approach that provided a calm oasis away from her hectic executive career. It also had to instill her love for colour and provide a backdrop to a growing art and furniture collection.

A late 1990’s remodeling of the property left the property in a tired state of repair with some poorly organised and ill proportioned spaces giving the impression of a smaller property than the floor plan would imply.

Found stripped out the old scheme and through minor structural alterations opened up the staircase into a double height space, providing a much needed vertical connection upon entering the apartment. The reconfiguration of an overly large second bathroom enabled the creation of a new utility room and a guest shower room, freeing up space for a larger ‘statement’ kitchen. Planning permission was obtained to install a large skylight above the dining room, which, combined with the full width opening doors, provides a city backdrop to the dining room as well as permeating natural light into the main living spaces.

The client’s love of colour was explored in the finishes of the monolithic orange kitchen and the green and orange shower room. The master bedroom, dressing room and bathroom became a sanctuary of oak, limestone and mirror with innovative storage solutions to house the client’s extensive shoe and handbag collection.

The finished project is a bright, colourful and highly efficient space fulfilling the client’s brief.
