Private Home, Notting Hill, London
Found were asked to design a contemporary living environment for a family in a Victorian terraced house in Notting Hill, London. The client requested an open-plan feel to the property combined with several more intimate spaces.
The existing property was divided up into small spaces with a few makeshift extensions to the rear. Found opened up the basement and ground floor, and extended the basement to the rear. The basement extension also formed a terrace to the ground floor space.
With full width folding-sliding doors to the rear basement and ground floor, both levels got the best possible daylight and a strong connection between inside and outside living.
A large void between the ground floor and basement, with a double height slatted timber storage unit running along one side, establishes a powerful vertical connection between the levels.
The void and storage unit also define the open floor plans in a dynamic progression of spaces with different qualities creating intimacy and flexibility.
