While this kitchen had a decent layout, the original cabinets had no redeeming value whatsoever, so we were happy to see this one go! And notice the acoustic tile ceiling and mint walls? Ugh.

We kept the pantry, fridge and wall ovens in their original spots, and added a more accessible drop zone/coffee station

So we kept the layout the same, but added a half height wall behind the cooktop (for safety reasons, as this is a high traffic area), and we widened the doorway into the kitchen.

This view shows the awkward way the fridge stuck out on the right, blocking a large part of an already smallish opening.

This is the sightline from the family room, a step down into the next room. Makes for easy pass-through at parties and at dinner-in-front-of-the-TV nights!

We customized the drawer below the coffeemaker to hold their favourite coffee pods!

The induction cooktop is shallow, so we were able to get a drawer right underneath the appliance. These drawers are also not as deep (front to back) as standard, because there is a pop-up downdraft vent behind the cooktop, which travels down behind these drawers , through the floor, to the outside...
