The Barnes House 3

Located in Barnes, London, this project rejuvenates an existing Victorian terrace house, which had lost its character due to previous alterations.

The key changes made, include opening up the rear living spaces to the garden, achieved by lowering the rear floor levels to create a seamless connection with the outdoors. A new timber-lined opening was introduced to link the front and back of the house, blending old and new elements.

Natural light was a central consideration in the design, with spaces strategically arranged to make the most of daylight throughout the day. Bespoke joinery was used throughout the house, leading from the hallway to the garden. The owners Scandinavian furniture collection was key to the design, influencing the design of the new staircase, built in seating to the dining area and oak lined ceiling spaces.

All the bespoke joinery was crafted in-house, adding a unique touch to the interior. All the levels of the house were a back to brick refurbishment, featuring a new oak staircase that stretches the full height of the building.

It stands as a testament to the blend of heritage and contemporary comfort, reflecting the charm of a conservation area in Barnes.

The garden was transformed to include a natural woodland path leading to a hidden garden office, with larch used for the rear doors and timber cladding, which will naturally age to a silver grey hue.
