This kitchen renovation (in an old Portland home) was inspired by the owners' gutsy attitude and love of Modernist furniture. A bold, dark materials palette includes Oregon walnut custom cabinetry, handmade gunmetal-gray tile, and white quartzite countertops. To harmonize the new modern space with the vintage of the home (1911), we maintained the existing kitchen footprint, and a custom cabinetry scheme was designed to fit seamlessly with the bones of the room. Also, new oak flooring matches that of the adjacent dining room, further connecting old and new.
