2. High-scoring powder room floor in Canada. Katie Lo of Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighborhood injected a little fun into her powder room without making a huge commitment. She ordered Scrabble tiles from China and installed them on the floor herself. “I was met with a lot of questions and confusion from our project managers and trades, but in the end, everyone loved it,” she says. There are about 7,000 tiles on the floor, each individually laid by Lo. The installation took two full days to complete. “I had the entire floor designed beforehand, and my husband and I came up with approximately 60 words that are hidden in the floor,” she says. The words include cities they’ve lived in, family members’ names and inside jokes. The tiles are attached to a plywood base with polyurethane construction adhesive, and the floor is sealed with five coats of water-based clear sealant.
This collection pays homage to the origin of all our pieces. It highlights the natural beauty of 200 year old antique Elm wood, accented in a variety of colors. From sleek tables, to unusual tree stumps for display or seating, the result is something organic and unique, just like the ancient trees from which they were crafted.

17. Warm woods. Wood is the secret to this Zen-inspired bathroom’s success. From the rich red-tinged mahogany bath surrounds to the light blonde wood cabinetry and window frames, the wood surfaces add visual and textural appeal and infuse this relaxation zone with a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

This piece over the island has special meaning to one of the homeowners. It was originally part of his great-grandfather’s workbench, and he wanted to use it in some way in the kitchen

These beautiful slices of birch would nestle into a rustic or masculine inspired bar quite nicely, and they'd make for some casual conversation as well. People are always intrigued by interesting coasters, it seems.

I love the idea of a coatrack for the colder seasons. This one is superstylish and comes in a slew of colors. My pick? This warm gray.
Homestead Rustic Lodge Reclaimed Wood Square Tray - $94 I want a minimalist wooden tray that can hold drinks or a cheese spread and then also act as a base for a holiday centerpiece.
Consider this gorgeous ceiling. The timber adds tonal warmth and unusual detail to this chic bedroom; it’s far more exotic than a plain white ceiling.

A single log is juxtaposed against a sleek glass tabletop, creating an interesting tension between materials in this contemporary dining room. The natural element echoes the wood-paneled accent wall, giving it a rationale in the space. Foliage displayed on the smaller tray table repeats the natural theme in an otherwise stark environment.

Raw is hot. Raw wood is neither polished nor lacquered, so there is good reason to watch your nylon stockings if you take a seat on one of the pieces of raw-wood furniture that jump out at you in design stores in the Finnish capital. Raw and heavy wood is popular, as are good-quality light and airy wooden pieces, while anything in between gets relegated to the back bench. Muubs’ Dakota chair in teak is pictured here, from the display at the MIA Design shop in Design District Helsinki.
