One of Kohler’s bigger announcements, though, was the debut of six new lighting collections. They include 200 products, with plans to double that number by the end of the year. The six collections — Artifacts, Memoirs, Damask, Simpalo, Components and Modern Farm — feature modern, transitional and classic sconces, pendants, flush-mount fixtures and chandeliers. The lighting collections allow homeowners to choose from a range of styles in finishes that will match and complement existing Kohler product finishes, such as on sinks and shower fixtures.
A shower niche adds storage for bathing products without taking up too much space. But if you find most shower niches too small, there’s no reason you can’t extend them, especially vertically between the wall studs. Designer Gianna Marzella of Gia Mar Interiors added an oversize shower niche to this New York City bathroom that not only creates extra storage but also draws the eye upward to make the space appear larger.
Finding clever ways to add storage is key to creating a user-friendly bathroom. For this California bathroom makeover,designer Bonnie Bagley Catlin of Signature Designs Kitchen & Bath added storage towers on the countertop for easy access to items such as skin care products, right at eye level. It’s a concept similar to pullout spice racks flanking a range in a kitchen.
Look to the Past This dramatic bathroom window has custom shutters influenced by the Tudor period. Back then, it was difficult to make big pieces of glass, so the panes were tiny and held together with lead in a crisscross or other pattern. The panes on these shutters are frosted for privacy but still maintain their period feel. Maybe shutters in the bathrooms will work...
