Room of the Day: Dreaming Big Inspires an Ultimate Bath of Luxury
Talk about a dream space. This bathroom has a heated lounge seat, fireplace, TV, steam shower and more
If budget weren’t an issue, what would your dream bathroom look like? For these Dallas homeowners, the answer was a “serenity room.” The space, which sits in a sprawling 438-square-foot master bathroom, includes a tile-covered heated lounge chair in front of a fireplace and flat-screen TV. A niche off to the side can hold lotion, a book and a glass of wine. It’s the epitome of luxury, and the kind of room that can only come from dreaming big.
A teak-covered drop ceiling encloses the steam shower, large bathtub and serenity room, with its tile-covered heated lounge seat. An HVAC vent is positioned directly above the seat for temperature control. The homeowners also use the heated seat as a towel warmer.
Careful consideration ensured that the components of the lounge unit weren’t visible. “We didn’t want it to look like something on a cruise ship,” says Hannah Kasper, director of operations at Kasper Custom Remodeling, which worked on construction and installation.

The rest of the space includes separate his-and-her vanities, water closets and clothes closets. You read that right. There are two of each.
Not surprisingly, no expense was spared for finishes. The floor is marble tile from Ann Sacks, and the fixtures are top-of-the-line brushed nickel and chrome from Hansgrohe.
Wall tile: Ona natural tiles, Porcelanosa; Axor Citterio 39135001 widespread faucet set with lever handles in chrome, Hansgrohe; Vero 03304800001 undermount vanity sink with overflow: Duravit

Kasper and the construction crew worked to remove walls in the original 1970s compartmentalized layout and open the space up more while adding other walls to create the new water closets.
One “uh-oh” moment occurred when Kasper and the crew had laid down the marble floor tiles and realized the heating pad beneath wasn’t working properly. After consulting a few technicians, they used a heat gun tool to pinpoint the exact location of the problem, which turned out to be faulty wiring. They had to rip up only one marble tile to fix the heating pad.
