Fire Regs Question

Hi I am in the midst of similar renovation. Ive a 1 bedroom terraced cottage which I'm converting to a 3 bed. This involves a double extension at back to add 2nd bedroom to 1st floor and a loft conversion.I have also knocked down kitchen wall making it open plan kitchen diner. As my stairs come off the dining room they wont allow saying its a fire risk. I am currently being told only way round is to possibly install sprinkler/mist system which is likely cost thousands or move my stairs to the front house ,ie in.living room but they will also have to be enclosed ! Someone advised me today so long as windows upstairs are fire escape size windows in bedtooms and loft that wpuld be sufficient. Any ideas most welcome. Thank you Mel.Norton
