Design ideas for a large contemporary games room in Cleveland with green walls, carpet and beige floors.

A family room with too much sun

Contemporary Games Room, Cleveland

My clients purchased this house for their family, excited about the sun-filled family room. As I have found many times, the clients realized that the amount of sun was more than they planned; it made watching television difficult, as well as fading upholstery and carpet. The clients had solar shades installed, which they can operate on a remote control system. This is good, since the shades are very high, but the shades needed to be concealed somehow. A handyman came up with these wood cornices, which did conceal the shades, but became an eyesore themselves. I suggested that the client paint them the same color as the walls, to make them visually disappear, and we would add new curtain panels.
