A luscious green bathroom design is complemented by matt black accents and unique platform for a feature bath.
The Brief
The aim of this project was to transform a former bedroom into a contemporary family bathroom, complete with a walk-in shower and freestanding bath.
This Storrington client had some strong design ideas, favouring a green theme with contemporary additions to modernise the space.
Storage was also a key design element. To help minimise clutter and create space for decorative items an inventive solution was required.
Design Elements
The design utilises some key desirables from the client as well as some clever suggestions from our bathroom designer Martin.
The green theme has been deployed spectacularly, with metro tiles utilised as a strong accent within the shower area and multiple storage niches. All other walls make use of neutral matt white tiles at half height, with William Morris wallpaper used as a leafy and natural addition to the space.
A freestanding bath has been placed central to the window as a focal point. The bathing area is raised to create separation within the room, and three pendant lights fitted above help to create a relaxing ambience for bathing.
Special Inclusions
Storage was an important part of the design.
A wall hung storage unit has been chosen in a Fjord Green Gloss finish, which works well with green tiling and the wallpaper choice. Elsewhere plenty of storage niches feature within the room. These add storage for everyday essentials, decorative items, and conceal items the client may not want on display.
A sizeable walk-in shower was also required as part of the renovation, with designer Martin opting for a Crosswater enclosure in a matt black finish. The matt black finish teams well with other accents in the room like the Vado brassware and Eastbrook towel rail.
Project Highlight
The platformed bathing area is a great highlight of this family bathroom space.
It delivers upon the freestanding bath requirement of the brief, with soothing lighting additions that elevate the design. Wood-effect porcelain floor tiling adds an additional natural element to this renovation.
The End Result
The end result is a complete transformation from the former bedroom that utilised this space.

Studio MACIl bagno patronale, è stato progettato non come stanza di passaggio, ma come una piccola oasi dedicata al relax dove potersi rifugiare. La carta da parati ha un motivo damascato consumato di colori che matchano perfettamente con i colori della resina utilizzata. A destra della doccia la nicchia della lavatrice e asciugatrice nascoste da un armadio a muro con anta scorrevole realizzato su disegno dell'architetto. L'anta è scorrevole e scorre davanti alla doccia. Il pavimento è di due colori diversi per motivi di sicurezza: il piccolo scalino di 6 cm non poteva essere eliminato per motivi strutturali, pertanto è stato deciso di differenziare nettamente le due zone al fine di evitare di inciampare. Tutti i mobili di questo bagno sono stati realizzati su disegno dell'architetta e dipinti con smalto decor di Kerakoll Design, in uno dei colori della nuova collezione.

However, if you’ve dreamt of a roll-top bath or a walk-in shower with heating at, then you might want to take longer looking for each item individually. Choosing all white elements will obviously tie everything together, but also think about the style you’re going for – ultra modern taps will clash with traditional Victorian-style wash basins. And it’s probably good to consider your flooring or surfaces, and walls to make sure everything will complement. Selecting bathroom decor such as cabinets, mirrors, shelves or other furniture for bathrooms can be tricky. You want to consider the storage they offer while also making sure they make an attractive feature as you enter your bathroom. Don’t forget you need them to be durable and withstand the damp conditions, e.g. if you’re going for a painted cabinet make sure the paint is suitable for baths. After you’ve made sure your light fittings are safe and to-code, you can consider the type and style you’d like as your working through your bathroom ideas. The great thing is that both floor tiles and wall tiles come in a huge variety of sizes, styles, colours and patterns, so you can remodel your room completely with whatever tile choices fit with your bathroom ideas. When it comes to flooring, tiles will be durable, easy to clean and deal well with water, but if you want something different you could go with modern concrete, traditional or country-style treated wooden floorboards, or a bit more quirky bamboo, cork or vinyl. The best small bathroom ideas will maximise the space you have. From installing a bidet to simple decorative tips there are plenty of things you can do to make it look bigger. Recessed shelves can make a huge difference both visually and practically to small bathrooms, so if you are able to have these installed when your walls are being renovated you could add some to your shower or sink area. You could choose pale colours and iridescent tiles that reflect the light, keep walls and ceilings the same colour and texture, and use complementary shades throughout the bathroom– fewer contrasts and transitions will help maintain the sense of space. Floating bathroom units also draw the eye to visible floor space underneath them, and clear glass shower screens will keep the room feeling open and airy. Finishing touches like artfully placed large mirrors will also make small bathrooms appear more expansive.3
