Bespoke oak porch required for lovely North Yorkshire home

Oak By Design have exhibited at The Home Building and Renovating Show in Harrogate for a number of years.
Often potential clients are researching for future home building projects and it can be a number of years later that we finally see them again when they approach us when their projects are coming to fruition.
In June 2020 Miles Pote , a local based painter and decorator contacted us when he and his wife Katie were ready for an oak porch on their brick built home in a Ryedale village.
They had been researching Oak Framed buildings when they came across the oak porch on the Oak by Design stand.
Their existing front door is set back from the front of the house and this area is 1500mm wide and a porch would highlight the door.
They knew exactly what they wanted and Miles sent a drawing with all the relevant dimensions and design.
Joanne sent a quotation for the 4 full-length post porch, at 2200mm wide, 1500mm deep and just over 3000mm high.
They wanted curved brackets on the front face, and sides of the porch.
The truss design they chose was a king post and 2 diagonal braces.
They chose to have the underside of the porch roof boarded with oak, and picked the Osmo Polyx UV oil in Raw (429) for the finish.
They accepted the quotation and then Miles’ intended builder couldn’t then commit to installing the porch and preparing the paving at the front of the house.
Joanne recommended Jack Stout, a builder who has installed a number of Oak By Design’s oak porches. He was available when Miles needed the porch building so the porch was ordered, ready for Jack to install in August 2020. The weather was amazing when Jack was installing the oak porch and often had a stream of people walking past the house keeping up to date with its progression.The porch has totally transformed the house according to Miles. In fact, he says the whole village loves it!
He said that they often have to pass on the details for Oak by Design as people stop to ask where they got it!
The porch looks really well against the contemporary wooden door and the French Grey painted windows.
Miles and Katie are now considering an oak framed extension on their home but they are also concentrating on a new business venture.
