Believe it or not, a wood countertop is an excellent transition material. It helps to blend traditional looks with more up-to-date finishes. It marries a kitchen office space with the main work area. Wood tops are available in a wide variety of species and finishes and can be extremely affordable. Pre-fabricated tops can be traded for a worn island top without much effort for a simple update. For new construction and full renovations, a custom top can be just the thing to soften all of the hard edges and cool colors. The island top pictured here was carefully selected to compliment the existing re-finished wood floors and the new maple cabinetry.
