With deliciously scented foliage, Salvia clevelandii, chaparral sage, is a must for perennial gardens with well-drained soil. The blue-violet flowers bloom in whorls along the stem, attracting bees and other pollinators. Design by Perennial Garden Consultants. Photo by Marinaandcamera.com

This property was covered with pink rock when our client called us. In an effort to be gentle on the environment, and to save money, the client took our suggestion to work with what they had by incorporating more contrasting rock to bring the property together in a cohesive design. The clients are active birders and wanted to grow their own food including vegetables and fruits. We worked with interior designer, Nikki Klugh, to select gorgeous furniture to compliment the design.

These are some of our design and build landscapes with sustainable, eco-friendly design practices in mind. Many of these were Cash for Grass rebate customers or Waterwise Conversion programs where money was awarded through local water districts and agencies.

The first step of fire defense involves addressing the home's structure, as most homes ignite when embers access the interior of the home or build on the home's dry, flammable materials. The owners have taken a few key steps to address their home's vulnerabilities. They have also engaged the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains to get a free assessment of the home's vulnerabilities as well as its "Zone 0," the first 5 feet around the home. Right now, a deep brick drive at the front of the home provides safe space for fire fighters to work should they need to defend the home.

Salvia greggii, a woody perennial, blooms spring and fall in shades of red, pink, and purple, in addition to white and bicolors. In hot desert climates, it tends to do better under the high shade of trees such as mesquite and palo verde, rather than full blazing sun. Design by Perennial Garden Consultants.
