This vast hillside in San Anselmo, Northern California has evolved over the years and is the personal sanctuary of Landscape Designer Eileen Kelly, owner of Dig Your Garden Landscape Design. Succulents have always been one of Eileen's favorites for their dramatic textures and low-water needs. Design and Photos © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design http://www.digyourgarden.com

This Project Includes a large Waterfall, 100' of Stream, 3 Bridges, over 1000' of stone walls, a 500,000 gallon pond, an amphitheater, a peninsula, a beach, a boat launch ramp, boulders throughout the entire pond, large trees, a boat dock, stone stairs, multiple terraces out of decomposed granite, and a large parking area.
The Waterfall, which is the start of this large waterfeature, acts as the Cornerstone for this Project. A number of the boulders are up to 8 feet across! About 1200 gallons a minute (72,000gph) flows over this waterfall. The waterfeature moves 2000 gallons a minute (120,000gph) when everything is flowing!
The waterfall drops about 17' in total and the stream drops about 3' for a total of 20' of elevation change. There are koi, goldfish, and shubunkins in the pond!
The pond is used for vineyard irrigation as well as aesthetics.

Los Angeles requires the incorporation of rain gardens (bioswales) in projects of this size. The Matloffs chose to nearly double the size of the required bioswale and to place it in the front garden, where they could harness its power to educate the neighborhood.
Under the rocks at the center of this photo sit drains that both receive and direct water.

As part of this Replacement Dwelling Development, this area between the two newly built large Oak Framed Buildings has been created to form a focal feature in between both buildings. A once totally neglected, over grown shaded area due to 20 Leylandi trees being in this part of the Developments Curtilage, this now lovely sunny area has been carefully landscaped with a wonderful dry stone curved wall, Oak cleft gates and Oak raised beds with Box Ball 'Cloud' Planting. Recalimed York Stone Flags and Setts have also been used and allowing the Oak of the buildings and raised beds to naturally 'silver' will go onto compliment the beautiful 200 year old stone. The Dry Stone wall is soon to be capped off with bull nosed stone coping stones. The Box Balls remain a constant structural planting element all year round and look stunning when frost covered. John Cullen low level Lighting in the raised beds and walk way allow these raised beds to look stunning in the evening.

This Bridge is intended to be similar to the Masters at Augusta. It can be driven over and water flows under it from the biological filter behind it.
