Yorkshire GardensIn this project we aimed to create a stylish garden which was both family friendly and low maintenance.
Eco decking was used to create a large contemporary decking area. This composite product is slip resistant and is created using 95% recycled materials so is very eco friendly . This product is extremely low maintenance and long lasting.
Rendered flower beds were built and complement the sleek and simple lines of the garden. A simplistic planting scheme has been utilised to add colour.
A high quality artificial lawn was laid. This product is a great alternative for those looking for a lawn which will look lush all year round and will with stand children and animals playing on it.
The slatted fence runs around the perimeter and adds warmth and texture to the space. Overall this garden is simple yet very slick.

Northwest Native Landscapes LLCThis compact, urban backyard was in desperate need of privacy. We created a series of outdoor rooms, privacy screens, and lush plantings all with an Asian-inspired design sense. Elements include a covered outdoor lounge room, sun decks, rock gardens, shade garden, evergreen plant screens, and raised boardwalk to connect the various outdoor spaces. The finished space feels like a true backyard oasis.
Jesse York, Landscape DesignerThis backyard is situated on a steep, rocky slope with panoramic ocean views. When I first met with the client, the yard was almost unusable and had very little flat space. The goal was to create spaces in the yard and pool that had enough room to accommodate lots of family and friends. The final design has 4 decks, 2 with fire pits, 1 with a hot tub with views of the sunset, 1 for daytime seating and a secrete deck below for the kids to play. It also has an outdoor kitchen, water feature on the slope, seating below a waterproof deck, built-in wood seating with storage below and a fun pool.
Nordland Landscapeshis terraced garden had seen better days and was riddled with issues. The client wanted to breathe fresh life into this outdoor space so that they could enjoy it in all weathers.
The first issue to address was that the garden sloped quite dramatically away from the house which meant that it felt awkward and unuseable.
Also, the decking was rotten which made it slippery and unsafe to walk on.
The small lawn was suffering from poor drainage and the steep slope made it very difficult to maintain. We replaced the old decking with one constructed out of composite plastic so that it would last the test of time and not suffer from the effects of our damp climate. The decking area was also enlarged so that the client could use it to sit out and enjoy the view. It also meant they could have a large table and chair set for entertaining.
The garden was split into two levels with the use of a stone-filled gabion cage retaining wall system which allowed us to level both upper and lower sections using a process of cut and fill. This gave us two large flat areas which were used as a formal lawn and orchard and wildflower area. When back-filling the upper area, we improved the drainage with a simple land drainage system. Now this terraced garden is beautiful and just waiting to be enjoyed.
Tracey Parker Landscape Design LtdThis family garden was redesigned to gives a sense of space for both adults and children at the same time the clients were extending their home. The view of the garden was enhanced by an oversized picture window from the kitchen onto the garden.
This informed the design of the iroko pergola which has a BBQ area to catch the evening sun. The wood was stained to match the picture window allowing continuity between the house and garden. Existing roses were relocated to climb the uprights and a Viburnum x bodnantense ‘Charles Lamont’ was planted immediately outside the window to give floral impact during the winter months which it did beautifully in its first year.
The Kiwi clients desired a lot of evergreen structure which helped to define areas. Designboard ‘Greenwich’ was specified to lighten the shaded terrace and provide a long-lasting, low-maintenance surface. The front garden was also reorganised to give it some clarity of design with a Kiwi sense of welcome.

Amber Freda Garden DesignYou’re looking beautiful, Brooklyn! Our design for this rooftop garden in Park Slope included composite decking, wood fencing, a black and tan pergola, globe lights, and black fiberglass planters. Up-lights in the plants also make for a dramatic nighttime effect. This project was somewhat unusual for us because the client actually built most of the hardscaping himself, based on our design. Hats off to such a hard-working client – you do great work! We came in after his work was finished to install all the plants, planters, soil, a small fountain, irrigation, and lighting.
