Village Landscape ArchitectureEquidistant treads create a visual rhythm for the eye. Boulders provide attractive grade control as needed. Crushed blue shale provide an accent color against the warm brown of the pressure treated stairs. Wider midway terrace, provides a view from the internal house hallway window. Includes beautiful and drought tolerant plantings and shade trees.
Banker WireA private homeowner, who is also a professional architect, wanted a low-maintenance fencing system that wouldn't rot or need painting every few years. They also wanted to use architecturally attractive materials that were durable to match their mid-century modern style home. The fencing fabric was also very important to be balanced visually with the beautiful forestry around their house. The powder-coated WDZ-545 welded wire mesh was the solution they were looking for. This ornamental welded wire mesh creates a stylish pattern to enhance the landscaping of the home, while providing a safe and functional barrier.

Urban Oasis Landscape DesignSculptural agaves, succulents and California native plants punctuate the front landscape complementing the “arroyo seco” rain garden studded with boulders and branches. The rain garden catches 50% of the stormwater runoff from the roof and infiltrates it into the soil. The remaining 50% of the runoff goes to a second rain garden in the back yard.

Salt + Dirt | Outside DesignDespite the unexpected, hefty cost, all the trees were selectively hand pruned by reputable arborists. Thinning and opening up canopies is not only reinvigorating, but reveals a venerable tree's true nature and form. To protect soils, the arborists used "spider lift" bucket truck.
The design in this part of the property is super curvilinear, emphasizing this stunning cottonwood, echoing the flow of the nature and river around it.
