The second-floor bath in this Brooklyn brownstone was a complete gut job. We covered 3 quarters of the walls in large-scale marble tile—but the glass enclosed shower features a pony wall of marble tile that continues onto the shower walls and ceiling. A vessel sink sits atop a white-granite vanity / countertop that's large enough to accommodate an adjacent sitting area. A huge freestanding soaking tub remains separate from the shower—we really made the most of this space without having to make major structural changes. Black hex tile with white grout covers the floor.

In the center of the kitchen is a waterfall island with classic marble countertop, oversized brass geometric pendants, and blue faux leather stools with brass frames. The tile backsplash behind the oven is a geometric marble with metallic inlay which creates a glamorous patterning.

Cream walls, trim and ceiling are featured alongside white subway tile with cream tile accents. A Venetian mirror hangs above a white porcelain pedestal sink and alongside a complementary toilet. A brushed nickel faucet and accessories contrast with the Calcutta gold floor tile, tub deck and shower shelves.
A leaded glass window, vintage milk glass ceiling light and frosted glass and brushed nickel wall light continue the crisp, clean feeling of this bright bathroom. The vintage 1920s flavor of this room reflects the original look of its elegant, sophisticated home.

A leaky garden tub is replaced by a walk-in shower featuring marble bullnose accents. The homeowner found the dresser on Craigslist and refinished it for a shabby-chic vanity with sleek modern vessel sinks. Beadboard wainscoting dresses up the walls and lends the space a chabby-chic feel.

This charming little attic bath was an infrequently used guest bath located on the 3rd floor right above the master bath that we were also remodeling. The beautiful original leaded glass windows open to a view of the park and small lake across the street. A vintage claw foot tub sat directly below the window. This is where the charm ended though as everything was sorely in need of updating. From the pieced-together wall cladding to the exposed electrical wiring and old galvanized plumbing, it was in definite need of a gut job. Plus the hardwood flooring leaked into the bathroom below which was priority one to fix. Once we gutted the space, we got to rebuilding the room. We wanted to keep the cottage-y charm, so we started with simple white herringbone marble tile on the floor and clad all the walls with soft white shiplap paneling. A new clawfoot tub/shower under the original window was added. Next, to allow for a larger vanity with more storage, we moved the toilet over and eliminated a mish mash of storage pieces. We discovered that with separate hot/cold supplies that were the only thing available for a claw foot tub with a shower kit, building codes require a pressure balance valve to prevent scalding, so we had to install a remote valve. We learn something new on every job! There is a view to the park across the street through the home’s original custom shuttered windows. Can’t you just smell the fresh air? We found a vintage dresser and had it lacquered in high gloss black and converted it into a vanity. The clawfoot tub was also painted black. Brass lighting, plumbing and hardware details add warmth to the room, which feels right at home in the attic of this traditional home. We love how the combination of traditional and charming come together in this sweet attic guest bath. Truly a room with a view!

An Industrial styled kitchen with a monochrome design and a splash of blue makes for a sophisticated collection of textures and materials in a space perfect for entertaining. The large format tiles on the floor make the space seem bigger. The feature angle poise lights from the ceiling above the island are an unusual way of using lighting to make a statement. Metro tile splashback is a classic look but still in keeping with the retro feel.
Matt White kitchen with a contrast coloured island means the “work” side of the kitchen is hidden into the walls and the island is the thing to catch your eye first.
Polished concrete floor from Lazenby’s adds to the desired industrial aesthetic and is a great way to bounce light into a basement space.
Large black pendant lights compliment the black framing on the Clement windows Crittall Glazing beautifully. Its worth noting the way the light catches on the framing and casts shadows on the wall. – This is a great way of manipulating light to create a dynamic feature - no need for artwork!

Keep Smiling Home
Our 1917 bathroom had lost its character somewhere along the way and after the toilet and tub began leaking into the kitchen below we knew we had to start working on it. That meant tearing out the plaster and lath, the old (beautiful) tile underneath layers of linoleum and the builder grade fixtures. We re-created the tile pattern, and added a subway tile shower where the closet used to be.

This white kitchen is grounded by the dark espresso island. Carrara marble island with wine storage on the side create a beautiful contrast to the white cabinets with the silestone grey countertops and herringbone backsplash tile. This kithchen renovation included the removal of a load bearing wall to open it up and make it feel bright and airy.
