The Brief
Open plan with a very contemporary interior and a new approach to living space for a cosmopolitan couple.
Our Solution
Having worked with this client previously, we knew that the brief would be for a contemporary space with an open plan layout and materials on show wherever possible.
We set about working in built-in storage joinery items, a back to front arrangement at ground floor and a glamorous master suite.
The ground floor was dug out a little and the now ubiquitous Crittall glazing added (before it was everywhere!).
We placed the dining space to the front, a double console kitchen in the centre of the plan and the living space off the yard garden. Quite an urban approach – but this is Clapham.
Using materials as the interior finish always works well, some great touches from the client to finish the space meant this is a scheme that we often refer to.

Internally a palette of existing granite walls has been paired with Jerusalem limestone stone flooring from Mandarin Stone , and wide-plank oak flooring. Existing timber ceiling and roof structures have been retained where possible – retaining the character of the property. Feature panels of black walnut line the kitchen and entrance hall joinery, adding warmth to the calm colour palette. Wood burners were supplied by Kernow Fires .
Prime Oak
A beautiful Oak Annexe featuring a porch and french doors.
The french doors allow easy access into the garden and help to extend the room. The log store provides a sheltered area to store wooden logs, bicycles or outdoor accessories, such as muddy wellies!

Historic Boston rises above a contemporary private courtyard in the city’s South End. Steel-framed, whitewashed fir walls enclose a vibrant, durable garden. Innovative storage solutions make efficient use of limited space. Soothing geometric patterns visually extend the volume of the courtyard, and bright plantings punctuate the landscape. Native moss joints create a soft, porous carpet between antique cobblestones. A salvaged Maine granite pier rises from the earth to form the pedestal of a table—the centerpiece of the garden. Interior and exterior spaces blend to expand urban living.
