Inspiration for a rural garden in Hampshire.

Replacing hedge in Liphook Hampshire

Country Garden, Hampshire

This summer seems to be busier than ever with our hedge planting service at Ben Lannoy Landscapes. Our garden maintenance team is working around the clock to provide a great service to all of our regular clients and we have taken on some very exciting soft landscaping and design projects throughout Surrey and Hampshire. Mrs F, one of our regular clients in Liphook, recently asked us to replace her mixed hedging at the front of her property as over the years it had begun to look haggard with lots of dead wood. Living on a fairly busy road, privacy was important to Mrs F, so we suggested Prunus Lusitanica (Portuguese Laurel) as they are fairly quick growing and the red stems provide year round interest on this evergreen hedge. To provide Mrs F with a fairly instant hedge, we opted for 4-4.5 ft Prunus Lusitanica in 20 litre pots from C.G.J.Mathias & Son nursery in Tilford near Farnham. The hedging plants we selected were of a bushy nature, allowing for them to be planted at fairly wide intervals. Although on the face of it, it may have appeared to be a daunting task, with the right tools and equipment it was fairly straightforward and we had the old hedge removed and the new one planted within one (fairly long) day. A month on, the hedge has taken extremely well and we will be giving it a quick trim within the next few weeks in order to encourage new growth in all the right places to provide a uniformed hedge.
