San Rafael Shingle-Style Remodel

Traditional Living Room, San Francisco

A 3-story addition (master suite over kitchen/family room over garage) anchors this whole house remodel of a house originally built around 1910. Adding vertically allowed the homeowners to reclaim valuable upslope garden area by removing a poorly planned previous kitchen addition. The new addition, which supplanted a converted sleeping porch on posts, adds generous living and utility space, as well as improving circulation and functionality, without significantly increasing the footprint of the structure.
