Sydney Regional Design Awards 2020 - Heritage buildings / adaptive reuse

House Exterior, Sydney

Brent Fitzpatrick of Fabric Architecture claimed a Commendation in the Heritage Buildings/Adaptive Reuse category of the BDAA Sydney Regional Chapter Design Awards 2020 for his Town Hall Hotel design. In this ultra-modern and upscale hotel design features a nice use of an expressed brick feature wall and a lovely interior garden space near the pokies area. A design challenge to retain the heritage ceilings whilst incorporating modern services (e.g. lighting) was deemed well met. Judges believed that the design retains the character and feeling of "yester-year" whilst also presenting a uniquely modern vibe. The designer has achieved internal alterations in sympathy with the Heritage aspect of the building while bringing new life to an old hotel. This design generated greatly improved street appeal, excellent brick detailing, an excellent new bar and interior styling.
