Campion Walker Landscapes
To anchor a modern house, designed by Frederick Fisher & Partners, Campion Walker brought in a mature oak grove that at first frames the home and then invites the visitor to explore the grounds including an intimate culinary garden and stone fruit orchard.
The neglected hillside on the back of the property once overgrown with ivy was transformed into a California native oak woodland, with under-planting of ceanothus and manzanitas.
We used recycled water to create a dramatic water feature cut directly into the limestone entranceway framed by a cacti and succulent garden.

Large format pavers around the perimeter of the lawn are a practical way of edging the lawn, doing away with timber edging and creating a mowing strip and pathway all at the same time.

Garden Stories
A mid-century home sits behind this naturalistic planting design framed by a horizontal, contemporary-style fence. The lines of the fence are the perfect foil to the wispy brushstrokes of feather grass. This planting design was inspired by wind-swept hills, and foothill Manzanita. These plants thrive with absolutely no irrigation and no additional water (not even in the first year). The concrete pavers were re-purposed from the original garden. Photo: James Wilson
BE Landscape Design
After a tear-down/remodel we were left with a west facing sloped front yard without much privacy from the street, a blank palette as it were. Re purposed concrete was used to create an entrance way and a seating area. Colorful drought tolerant trees and plants were used strategically to screen out unwanted views, and to frame the beauty of the new landscape. This yard is an example of low water, low maintenance without looking like grandmas cactus garden.

The low wall was set 3 ft back from the sidewalk with plants placed in front. The stairs create a niche for the front gate where we placed urns with dwarf Kumquat trees planted in them. An electric gate for their cars creates some security.
