Akita Komar Architects was established in 2016 by Marcin Komar & Maho Akita after they graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. Ethos Our ethos is to work with people rather than simply for people and to share with them the wonder and joy of creating a space that is sensitive to their needs and to our environment. Our aim is to embark on a journey where the individuals’ desires and needs are discovered and where we can propose a solution or remedy that is sensitive and responsive to the needs of the client and the built environment. We very much enjoy and relish the challenge of understanding our client’s aspirations, likes, desires and constraints, learning as we go, we develop proposals and evolve them so that the final realisation reflects both personality and character of the owner. Ambition Our ambition is to explore the endless possibilities and challenges of function and form, while innovating with non-standard materials or employing standard materials in novel ways. Our wish is to work on challenging concepts and projects where focus, passion and commitment are needed. We love the design journey with clients, discovering new possibilities of architecture, and utilising new techniques from various disciplines, while remaining sensitive to sustainability. And we love to work with people who are looking not only for a bespoke design but also are brave enough to move from their comfort zone, and embrace the hidden possibilities of modern architecture. We like to choose interesting projects that enable us to problem solve in new ways and to express ourselves as architects while giving effect to our clients’ wishes. I’ve had the great pleasure to collaborate with Akita Komar Architects on interior design of my new-built house located in Tyniec Mały in Poland. The architects met all my expectations. Because of the distance and pandemic issues we were forced to have only online meetings which was very convenient for me. The meetings were always effective and valuable during which the architects provided many innovative tips and suggestions for implementing interesting ideas into the project. The entire design process was extremely smooth, and my new home is extremely functional and simply beautiful. I am in delighted with individual approach to the Client. I am sure I will be back with each new design task. I highly recommend the Akita Komar Architects!

We appointed Akita Komar as Architects and contract administrators for the refurbishment of our 5 bedroom house in Hampstead. They prepared drawings and did all the groundwork to obtain the required planning permission seamlessly. Marcin and Maho were spot on in terms of ideas, design, producing drawings and sketch ups. They provided options for us to choose from and came back with modifications based on discussions. They regularly visited the site and held discussions with the contractor to ensure the project proceeded in a timely manner and all work was up to standard. Their attention to detail was truly impressive and they provided support to us and the contractor wherever required, and beyond their contractual obligations. As contract administrators, they were thorough and fair and kept a close eye on costs. They were always available and responsive and I cannot recommend them enough.

As an Interior Psd LTD practice, we have worked with many contractors over the years. We have been absolutely delighted with the quality and service provided by Akita Komar Architects on two recently completed house refurbishment projects. Both involved the modification and total upgrade of a whole house, including complex structural steel installations, new services and new finishes throughout, but both finished on time and on budget, to an excellent quality of finish with impressive attention to detail. AkitaKomarArchitects and the team were attentive and easy to work with. We will definitely be proposing them to our clients again…

I was recommended to Marcin at Akita Komar Architects to prepare plans for a conversion of a loft in a 1000 sq ft large 2 bed flat. Drawings were meticulously prepared with numerous consultations prior to submitting the same to the Council for approval. The approved plans were followed through with specifications and interviews with builders and selecting a suitable builder for the project. Throughout the building process, a number of site visits and meetings with builders and myself were conducted to ensure the quality of workmanship and the costs were properly controlled.

Marcin and Maho at Akita Komar revised an existing plan and proposal to provide options that were more contemporary and blue-chip: each option providing architectural counterpoints to our Victorian home. They were extremely professional, polite and sensitive to our wishes and ideas and were able to amplify and develop themes and options - not overbearing at all. Planning permission was obtained without difficulty. Technical knowledge was excellent, as was their work quality and ethic. When building contractors were difficult to deal with, Marcin was able to mediate, obtain a satisfactory resolution and de-stress the situation. In short Akita Komar went above and beyond to please us and get the job done. The work consisted of demolition of two stories and replacement with modern kitchen ground floor extension and a 1st floor bathroom. We look forward to working with them again, in the next phase of our project - loft extension.
