We also took a chance on Bastion based on positive reviews and their impressive website. We are delighted to say that both Keith & Russell have delivered on everything we were hoping for and more. They clearly listened to our very specific brief, yet created an impressive extension and improved living space with a flair and innovation way beyond our expectation. They are very easy to work with, responsive to the inevitable tweaks and changes required along the way and guided us through the planning and building control process without any issue. Even the builders we have contacted commented on how their contractors were always grateful for the clear and precise drawings that Bastion deliver. We would definitely recommend Bastion to anyone who is looking for a creative and innovative design company who are sensitive to your own needs and not just forcing their own style and preferences on you.

We engaged Bastion after an extended search for an architect to draw up plans for our upcoming basement conversion project, having spoken to a number of Architects who we didn’t feel entirely comfortable with - we found Russell at Bastion and with that came calm, collected discussions and excellent design work and drawings, invaluable advice on so many levels, reasonable pricing and clarity as to what was and wasn’t included. No extra hidden costs so no nasty surprises. Russell dealt with the application, drew us up a set of elevations and floor diagrams based on what our vision of the basement was, worked closely with us on the heritage aspects of the application and generally impressed. We only had to have one conversation with him to get the basic design in place - he got what we were looking for from the start, and after a short discussion and some tweaks to that initial draft the new version 2 diagrams became the final agreed version. Can’t recommend Russell or Bastion enough really, soon we will have a set of extra rooms in the basement that will enhance our home immeasurably and we literally could not have done it without him.

We selected Bastion based upon other reviews, initially for an online consultation as we weren't sure whether we wanted to extend or move house. We had a list of requirements, but had not thought of a solution to achieve these (and frankly weren't sure that we'd be able to meet these given the layout of our house). Within a couple of hours, Keith had come up with a solution which blew us away, meeting all of our requirements. We then proceeded to use them for the full detailed technical design, as well as obtaining planning permission. From day one, the service from both Keith and Russell has been outstanding. They have fully considered and responded to all our concerns, and guided us through the process in an extremely professional and responsive manner. It is also worth noting that the design and consultations were carried out over video calls (due to the pandemic), and only the surveyor and structural engineer have visited our property. This approach has worked extremely well and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this approach to others. Very highly recommended.

We worked with Russell and Keith on the design for a complete renovation of our 1930s home where the building work is currently underway. We thoroughly enjoyed working with Bastion during all stages of the design, from initial ideas, finalising the design, planning and starting the building work. We enjoyed the energy the team had - their professionalism and communication was also excellent. The team were also very helpful when it came to making recommendations for separate areas of the build (e.g. builders and building control) which was appreciated. Whilst we are thoroughly pleased with Bastion, their design and their costs, the only disappointment is the build cost coming in far over the initial budget we had set together for the design. However, we are very pleased with the final design and look forward to this coming a reality! We would thorough recommend Bastion to others, no matter how big or small your project is.

These guys did an awesome job. They handled both the initial architectural design and then the later technical drawings for building control. I took a long time to find an architect that I could work with. So many wanted to put their sense of style on my home. Keith took the time to understand how we worked as a family and therefore our needs for how the house should work. The designs for our extension were perfect and took into account what the council would allow. Keith Jewell provided lightening fast service in helping us by providing required elevation drawings for heritage, design and access statements in order to submit applications for Listed Building Consent for our grade II listed timber frame thatched cottage. With no quibble when I twice had to ask for slight revisions due to change of instructions / information required by the Conservation Officer. Very much appreciated.

What can I say?! A truly professional company with client needs at heart. We had some excess land we wanted to hbuild on but didn’t know how to go about it. Cameron and his team proved a fountain of knowledge and in a short time came up with plans for five new 3 bedroom properties. They offered to see the planning application phase through and provide support at each stage too. All in all a very enjoyable, enlightening and excellent experience.
